From Antiquity to the present day, merchants, explorers, settlers and missionaries have transported vines and wines on their ships. In amphoras, barrels and then containers, these adventurers carried their precious cargo to the farthest lands of the known world, thanks to which, from the sunny shores of the Mediterranean, wine conquered the world.

These expeditions across the seas and oceans not only spread the taste for wine and vine-growing, but also transformed winemaking methods.

In this section of the Permanent Exhibition, board a boat with 50 seats to enjoy an animated film that will take you on a fascinating journey through time and space. Sail along the routes of the major maritime expeditions and relive the epic stories of pioneers throughout the ages, who braved the elements to introduce wine and vines in all four corners of the world.

Each stage in this immersive experience reveals how these cultural and commercial exchanges have always connected people across the planet.

You will also discover how conservation techniques had to change to ensure that the wine lost none of its qualities during the long journeys at sea, which also led to the creation of new types of wine.
