Young audiences and families
Welcome to La Cité du Vin !
The Cité du Vin is also a great place to visit with the family!
Despite appearances, the Cité du Vin is also suited to visitors with children! Whether you opt for the Permanent exhibition or a family workshop, your children will experiment with their senses and learn lots of new things!
Above and beyond a drink which is of course off-limits to children, wine has cultural and universal dimensions which are highlighted: traditions, legends, the expertise of women and men, links between global civilisations across the centuries, the inspiration of artists through the ages... An intangible heritage with many faces that invite you to journey through space and time!
THE PERMANENT EXHIBITION WITH CHILDREN
- Although reading is essential for many of the experiences, under 7s can still smell, look and just enjoy a unique adventure!
- For 7 to 12 year-olds, the ‘Children’s Tour’ will guide them through the themed areas and offer a fun experience just for them. They will discover how vines work in their environment, the winegrowing profession and the civilisations of wine in a fun way!
- Children over 12 can follow the tour at their own pace, depending on their interests!
The visit companion, a truly innovative tool, will accompany you throughout your visit and incorporate interactive, visual and immersive content which can be explored at a variety of speeds. It offers a specific tour for children aged 8 or over, including fun programmes for some areas.
Our tips for a successful visit to the Cité du Vin with children
Here are some things to know before visiting the Cité du Vin with your family :
- Choose the family pack from our online ticket office, which is a great deal for families and offers reduced rates for 2 adults + 2 children.
- Allow enough time for your visit! You'll need between 1½ and 2 hours, or even longer, to really enjoy it. Ideally, we recommend starting early (when it opens at 10 a.m.) to avoid the crowds and take your time.
- Don't forget to stop by the belvedere for a tasting. Your children will enjoy climbing to the top of the Cité du Vin and taking in the impressive panoramic view from the top floor!
- Plan a break in one of the restaurants for a snack or afternoon tea (at Latitude20 or Restaurant le 7), or take a stroll through our gardens if the weather permits!
We visited the exhibition with children aged 6 and 7. The child-friendly tour is very entertaining. It lasts at least 1½ hours. As an added bonus, the tour includes wine and grape juice tasting for the little ones at a viewpoint with breathtaking views of Bordeaux. A wonderful experience!
