Photo exhibition

From April 23 to September 20, 2026

Organised by the City of Bordeaux, in collaboration with the Cité du Vin, which celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2026, this exhibition pay a tribute to Martin Parr (1952, Epsom - 2025, Bristol), one of the most influential contemporary British photographers.

Renowned and famous for his ironic yet benevolent gaze, he has continued to observe, with humor and lucidity, the social rituals and forms of conviviality that pervade our societies.

Presented in the gardens of the Cité du Vin, the exhibition Martin Parr: Art of living brings together a selection of photographs he took between 1988 and 2023, mainly in Bristol - twinned with Bordeaux since 1947 - and in France.

Living together

Through these images, Martin Parr captures the energy of popular gatherings, parties, and receptions where different worlds intertwine. These scenes sketch out a true art of living and reveal a society attentive to the codes of coexistence, living together.

The exhibition alternates these scenes of sociability with the series Flowers (1999), devoted to flowers in public spaces. Photographed in the foreground, they interact with fragments of everyday life in the background—passersby, leisure areas, residential neighborhoods, and coastal landscapes. This subtle play of contrasts reveals how urban spaces are decorated, appropriated, and experienced.

A nod to Bordeaux culture

As a true common thread, wine, a symbol of sharing and conviviality, runs through the exhibition echoing Bordeaux's identity and the cultural mission of the Cité du Vin.
